Lucifer became Satan. Who is Lucifer?
Lucifer was the highest created magnificent angel by God described in Ezekiel before he was fallen: Ezekiel 28:11-19
Lucifer
Created Perfect (Ezekiel 28:12-13)
He was to be the guardian of God’s glory (Ezekiel 28:14)
Had a heavenly estate (Jude 6)
Created pride (Isaiah 14:13; 1 Timothy 3:6)
Subtle, deceptive father of lies (John 8:44)
His power and beauty were his downfall leading him to pride; therefore, rebelling against God (Isaiah 14:13; 1 Timothy 3:6) characterized by:
5 “I will” statements in Isaiah 14:13-14:
I will ascend into heaven,
I will exalt my throne above the stars of God:
I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
I will be like the most High.
Satan is NOT a metaphor. He is a powerful angel that committed treason against God forming a rebellious coo taking one third of the angels with him.
Satan has a hierarchy; corporate structure of minions of angels doing his evil biddings (Matthew 25:41; Revelation 12:7).
Jesus referred to Satan twenty-five times and personally encountered him in Matthew 4:1-11.
In Luke 11:15 others recognized him as “the prince of demons.”
Satan was the highest, greatest created class of Angel being (Ch. Job 1:6; Colossians 1:16).
He is too powerful in our flesh and we cannot battle him alone without God.
He is a formidable, cunning, being that we are incapable to fight without the strength, wisdom, knowledge, understanding, power, and authority of the Almighty.
Recognition of this is the first step to knowing how to battle the enemy.
His agenda:
To be God
To be like God
He wants all the glory and edification exalting himself above God.
Satan’s priorities:
Attack the human, fallen mind, inciting the greed within
Create separation from God
Create separation from each other
Infanticide
Annihilate mankind
Destroy us spiritually, physically, emotionally, relationally
What Satan is NOT:
Omniscient, omnipotent, infinite—he knows a lot but not everything
Power is limited not limitless-example Job 1:12
He was a created being
He can’t do what God won’t allow
He’s on a leash
We don’t flee from Satan-he “flees” from us. (James 4:7) He has to.
He can’t compete with God in the life of a submitted Christian.
The enemy cannot remain where God exercises his power.
God exercises His power in us, the indwelling Holy Spirit, as we follow Him.
Jesus already defeated him on the cross through His blood. (John 12:31)
The Doctrine of Jesus Christ is our victory! His crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension.
We are victors in Christ (1 Corinthians 15:55-57)
Jesus destroyed the works of the devil. Satan comes to steal kill and destroy. (Colossians 2:15)
Our power and authority:
1 John 4:4–Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.
1 John 5:4-5
Revelation 12:11
James 4:7
Ephesians 6:10-20–The armor of God.
We do not fight for victory; we fight from victory.
